Bre-B Payouts with Payment Instruments of Your Ecosystem
Use Case: Local Payments with Bre-B Using the Payment Instruments of Your Ecosystem#
Cobre enables Payment Service Providers (PSPs) that offer their own payment instruments or manage those offered by third parties to enable local Bre-B payments using those instruments—even if the denomination of those instruments is expressed in currencies or assets other than COP. Thanks to our operational model, Cobre enables the effective execution of payments initiated by users of these instruments and allows the repayment of disbursed values in a currency other than COP.Cobre receives your foreign currency and, when combined with instant local payouts, enables PSPs to offer a smooth in-person payment experience at merchants that accept Bre-B QR codes or Bre-B transfers. This guide explains how we achieve this.
When the app’s funds are in USD, settling the payment requires receiving funds at an agreed conversion rate between Cobre and the PSP that compensates the local payout. At this stage:
The app requests an Conversion quote USD → COP
The quote specifies the COP amount to be delivered — i.e., the amount sufficient to cover the payment
The user reviews and accepts the value in the app
This step guarantees transparency and user consent before enabling COP funds.
3.3 Cross-Border Money Movement (Enabling COP Balance)#
Once the amount is accepted:
The app executes a cross-border money movement
Payments are executed in COP
COP liquidity becomes available for the local payment
This step connects the app’s global funding with Colombia’s local payment rails.
Cobre enables PSPs in Colombia to: Fund payment apps in USD Enable COP funds at the moment of payment Execute Bre-B payments via QR codes or keys Support real-time in-person payments Receive immediate confirmation of results Maintain unified reporting across conversions and local payoutsBy orchestrating local currency enablement and Bre-B payouts, Cobre allows international PSPs to offer simple, fast, and scalable app payments across Colombia.
