Stablecoin Funding gives businesses a way to convert between their fiat and stablecoin Cobre Balances, keeping treasury operations flexible without leaving the Cobre platform. On-ramp converts fiat into stablecoins; off-ramp converts stablecoins back into fiat. Some conversions happen automatically as part of a payment flow, while others are triggered manually between a client's own accounts.
This feature is enabled via API and Portal.

With Stablecoin Funding, Cobre enables businesses to:

Convert fiat USD to stablecoins (usd_stable) and back, using their Global Cobre Balance

Convert fiat COP to COPco and back, using their Colombian Cobre Balance

Fund stablecoin payouts automatically, without a separate conversion step

Move funds manually between their own fiat and stablecoin balances on demand

Choose between standard (no cost) and instant (real-time) settlement when converting COPco back to COP

2. Stablecoin Funding in the Cobre Model

This capability fits into Cobre's ecosystem as the bridge between fiat and stablecoin balances:

Cobre Balance (Global fiat, USD) and Cobre Balance (Stable, usd_stable) form the USD corridor

Cobre Balance (Colombia, COP) and Cobre Balance (Stable, COPco) form the COP corridor

Money Movements represent each conversion, whether triggered automatically as part of a payout/payin or manually between the client's own balances

Transactions reflect the resulting debit and credit on each side of the conversion

In practical terms, Stablecoin Funding extends Cobre's balance model so fiat and stablecoin liquidity can move between each other using the same operational primitives used elsewhere on the platform.

3. Key Capabilities / Options

Stablecoin Funding is organized around two corridors and two modalities.

3.1 Corridors

USD corridor — between the Global fiat Cobre Balance (USD) and the Stable Cobre Balance (usd_stable)

COP corridor — between the Colombian fiat Cobre Balance (COP) and the Stable Cobre Balance (COPco)

3.2 Modalities

Automatic — happens transparently as part of a payin or payout on the Global fiat balance. Only available on the USD corridor.

Manual — the client explicitly transfers between their own balances. Available on both corridors.

3.3 Settlement Options for COPco Off-Ramp

When converting COPco back to COP fiat manually, two settlement options are available:

3.4 On-Chain Behavior

The COP corridor involves on-chain operations at every step: on-ramp mints COPco, and off-ramp burns COPco, both through Cobre's underlying blockchain infrastructure. The credit on the receiving side only happens once the corresponding on-chain operation is confirmed. The USD corridor does not involve on-chain operations — it is a ledger-only conversion between the client's own balances.

On-Ramp: Converting fiat balance into stablecoin balance

Off-Ramp: Converting stablecoin balance back into fiat balance

Automatic On/Off-Ramp: Conversion that happens transparently as part of a payin or payout, without a dedicated request (Cobre Balance Global)

Manual On/Off-Ramp: A conversion explicitly requested by the client between two of their own Cobre Balances (Cobre Balance Stable)

Settlement type: For COPco off-ramp, whether the resulting COP credit is standard (scheduled, free) or instant (real-time, has a cost)

Mint / Burn: The on-chain issuance or destruction of COPco that backs each COP corridor conversion

5. Speed, Settlement & Reliability

USD corridor: manual conversions are ledger-only and settle immediately between the client's own balances; automatic conversions happen inline with the payin or payout they support.

COP corridor: conversions depend on an on-chain mint or burn confirming before the opposite side is credited. For off-ramp, standard settlement credits COP according to defined windows; instant settlement credits COP in real time for an added cost.

If an on-chain mint or burn fails, the originating debit is automatically reversed and no conversion is applied.

7. Transactions, Reporting & Reconciliation

Every on-ramp or off-ramp produces a pair of transactions — a debit on the source balance and a credit on the destination balance — that can be reconciled against each other using the originating Money Movement:

Manual conversions generate transactions traceable back to the client's own Money Movement id

Automatic conversions are embedded in the payin/payout transaction flow they support

COP corridor conversions additionally carry on-chain confirmation as part of their lifecycle, giving finance teams an extra verification point

This provides consistent, auditable tracking of every fiat-to-stablecoin movement across both corridors.

8. Governance, Controls & Auditability

Stablecoin Funding includes the following controls:

Corridor and modality restrictions: automatic conversion is only available on the USD corridor; the COP corridor is manual-only

On-chain confirmation gating: COP corridor credits only occur after the underlying mint or burn is confirmed, with automatic reversal on failure

Settlement type selection: businesses explicitly choose standard or instant settlement for COPco off-ramp, with cost implications made clear at request time
