Account Reference – Virtual CLABEs

Virtual CLABEs are a type of account reference that can be used to collect funds in Mexico.
The virtual_clabe_accounts reference type allows the creation of CLABE account numbers that are valid and administered within the SPEI network, and that are associated with a CLABE account created through the Create Account endpoint.
These virtual CLABE numbers can be shared with customers for collection purposes.

Allowed Combinations#

When creating a Account Reference, the supported account types and geographies must be taken into account, as detailed below:

Account References Lifecycle#

Account references of type virtual_clabe_accounts can have two possible states:
enabled
Default state when the reference is created, indicating that it is ready to receive transactions.
disabled
State reached after invoking the Delete method.
All transfers sent to the virtual CLABE value associated with this reference will be rejected.
Virtual CLABEs should be understood as references linked to a CLABE account, therefore all transactions are ultimately processed on the associated Cobre Balance account.

How to Get Started#

Before you begin, we recommend reviewing the following considerations.

Before using this API#

You need a Cobre Balance in Mexico
To create a virtual CLABE, you must have a Cobre Balance account in Mexico.

Define the account reference type
You must select virtual_clabe_accounts as the account reference type to be created.
There is a limited number of Cobre Balance accounts in Mexico that can be used to create virtual_clabe_accounts references.
For this reason, it is recommended to create multiple virtual CLABEs associated with the same Cobre Balance account, rather than creating only one reference per account.

What to expect after using this API#

The account reference object is created
Once the account reference object is created, it will include the virtual CLABE number in the value field.

Share the virtual CLABE
Share the virtual CLABE number with your customers so they can transfer funds from their financial institution.

Receive the funds
You will receive SPEI credit transactions (spei_credit) in the Cobre Balance account associated with the virtual CLABE.
You can identify which virtual CLABE received the transfer through the account_reference field.
Please note that Cobre Balance accounts from provider pr_mex_cobre3 cannot be deleted if they have been used to create virtual CLABEs.
