Stablecoin Funding (On/Off-Ramp)

Stablecoin Funding lets clients convert between their fiat and stablecoin balances, either automatically as part of a payout/payin, or manually between their own balances.

Converting Between Fiat and Stablecoin Balances

Manual conversions are created through the Create a Money Movement API, using source_id and destination_id to reference the client's own balances — no counterparty is involved. Cobre infers the direction (on_ramp or off_ramp) from the account types.

Automatic on/off-ramp (embedded in a payout/payin on the Global fiat balance) is only available for the USD corridor.

COPco Off-Ramp Settlement Types

When converting copco back to COP fiat, specify metadata.settlement_type:

The COP corridor involves an on-chain mint (on-ramp) or burn (off-ramp) of COPco. The destination credit only occurs after that on-chain operation is confirmed — if it fails, the source debit is automatically reversed.

Funding lifecycle

Converting between a fiat and a stablecoin balance follows a simple lifecycle:

1. Ensure both balances exist
Both the fiat and the stablecoin balance must already exist.

2. Create a Money Movement
Create a Money Movement using the client's own balances as source_id and destination_id — no counterparty is involved. Cobre infers on_ramp or off_ramp from the account types.

3. The Money Movement is processed
Once created, the Money Movement starts in the initiated status. For copco conversions, a mint (on-ramp) or burn (off-ramp) is executed on-chain once the status moves to processing. The destination credit only posts once that operation is confirmed; a failed operation automatically reverses the source debit.

4. Wait for the final outcome and check the resulting transactions
Once completed, a debit transaction on the source balance and a credit transaction on the destination balance are generated.

5. Receive status updates
Money Movement status changes are communicated via Webhooks.

How to Get Started

Create both balances involved

Both the fiat and the stablecoin balance must already exist before requesting a conversion. See Managing Stablecoin Balances & Wallets.

Fund the source balance

The source balance must have sufficient funds for the requested amount.

Implement Webhooks to track conversion status

Subscribe to Money Movement status events, especially for the COP corridor where completion depends on an on-chain confirmation.

What to expect after using this API

Money Movement is initiated

The conversion starts in initiated status.

Two transactions are generated

A debit transaction on the source balance and a credit transaction on the destination balance are created once the Money Movement completes.

COP corridor waits for on-chain confirmation

For copco conversions, the destination credit only posts after the mint or burn confirms. A failed on-chain operation automatically reverses the source debit.
