International Money Movements refer to cross-border fund transfers that Cobre enables across its platform. These capabilities allow companies to send and receive USD with counterparties outside the United States, reliably, securely, and in compliance with international banking standards.
An International Money Movement is any transfer of money between a Cobre Balance and a bank account in another country, using an international payment network. Cobre supports:
Payins (collecting USD from payers abroad)
Payouts (paying beneficiaries abroad in USD)
Today these capabilities run over SWIFT, the global network banks use to send international payment instructions, operated from the client's USD Cobre Balance, and Generic Payments, which let businesses initiate international payments for corridors that do not yet have a dedicated automated rail.
Why Companies Use Cobre for International Money Movements#
Cobre brings international flows into the same infrastructure used for local money movements. Clients choose Cobre because it provides:
Cobre allows clients to send USD to beneficiaries abroad over SWIFT, executed automatically from their Cobre Balance, with no manual step by the Cobre Ops team.Use cases include:
International supplier and partner payments in USD
Settlements with counterparties outside the United States
International payouts that scale without added operational effort
Initiate international payment instructions through the Portal for corridors and providers that do not yet have a dedicated automated rail.Capabilities include:
Start operating new international corridors immediately
Same Counterparty and Money Movement model as every other Cobre product
Proof of Payment (PSP) downloadable from the Portal
Alongside SWIFT, Cobre offers Generic Payments: a capability that lets businesses initiate international payment instructions through the Portal for corridors and providers that do not yet have a dedicated automated rail.
Initiate international payment instructions directly from the Portal, without waiting for a dedicated automated corridor to be built
Reuse the same Counterparty and Money Movement model used across Cobre, so Generic Payments share the same reconciliation and reporting framework as every other product
Obtain a Proof of Payment (PSP) once the payment has been executed, downloadable from the Portal
Generic Payments are an Ops-mediated capability. While Cobre builds out automated provider connections across geographies, the Cobre Ops team acts as the counterparty and executes each payment manually on the client's behalf. This lets businesses start operating new international corridors immediately, on a standardized model that Cobre can progressively automate as third-party providers are integrated.
1
Client creates the payment
The client submits an international payment instruction through the Portal.
2
Counterparty screening
A Counterparty is created and screened through Cobre's internal decisioning APIs before any processing begins.
3
Money Movement recorded
A standardized Money Movement is created and recorded, giving the operation the same traceability as any other Cobre transaction.
4
Ops executes the payment
Once the Counterparty is approved after Ops review, the Cobre Ops team executes the payment through the corresponding external channel.
5
Proof of Payment available
Cobre issues a Proof of Payment (PSP), which the client can download from the Portal.
Every Counterparty used in a Generic Payment is screened through Cobre's internal decisioning APIs and must be approved after Ops review before the payment is executed.
Generic Payments let businesses cover international payment needs across geographies before a dedicated automated rail exists for that corridor, without giving up traceability, compliance screening, or reconciliation. As Cobre onboards additional third-party providers, the same Money Movement model allows execution to move from manual Ops processing to automated processing, with no change to how clients initiate or reconcile their payments.
Immediate access to international payment corridors, ahead of automated rail availability Consistent compliance screening for every Counterparty and payment Full traceability through the standard Cobre Money Movement model A foundation that scales from manual execution today to automated, multi-provider execution over time
Additional Features That Enable International Flows#
International Money Movement also leverages several features that make moving money through Cobre easier:
