SWIFT Payins

The SWIFT Payins solution enables your USD Cobre Balance to receive inbound USD transfers from payers at financial institutions outside the United States. Payers keep using the rail they already know, and every incoming payment is credited to your Cobre Balance and reconciled alongside the rest of your collections.

Allowed Combinations

When using a Cobre Balance to receive SWIFT Payins, the following account type and provider are required. SWIFT Payins use the same Cobre Balance as Fedwire Payins:

Receiving Credentials

Receiving credentials for SWIFT Payins work the same way as for Fedwire Payins. They are not created via an Account References endpoint. They are issued automatically at account provisioning:

Every pr_usa_cobre Cobre Balance includes a payment_methods object with the details your payers need to send funds to your balance: the BIC, account number, bank name, bank address, and account owner name

These credentials are unique to your Cobre Balance

They are available immediately once the account is active

Retrieve them at any time via the Obtain one Account endpoint or the Cobre Portal

Payin Lifecycle

1. Retrieve your receiving credentials
Call Obtain one Account with your Cobre Balance account_id and locate the details your payers need inside the payment_methods object.

2. Share credentials with your payer
Provide the details to the party sending funds. Instruct them to include a reference or memo in their payment if attribution or reconciliation is needed on your end.

3. Payer initiates the SWIFT payment
The sender submits a SWIFT transfer from their institution using your details as the destination.

4. Cobre credits your Cobre Balance
Upon receipt, Cobre credits your USD Cobre Balance. The time it takes depends on the payer's bank and any intermediary banks involved.

5. A credit transaction is created
A swift_credit transaction record is generated on your Cobre Balance.

6. Receive a webhook notification
An accounts.balance.credit event is dispatched to notify your system of the incoming credit.

Payin Limitations and Behavior

The time it takes for a SWIFT payment to be credited depends on the payer's bank and any intermediary banks involved.

Subscribe to the following event to be notified when a SWIFT payment is credited to your Cobre Balance:

How to Get Started

Before you begin, we recommend reviewing the following considerations.

You need an active Cobre Balance with provider pr_usa_cobre

SWIFT Payins are only available on Cobre Balances created with the pr_usa_cobre provider. The payment_methods object is populated automatically when the account becomes active.

Retrieve your receiving credentials

Call Obtain one Account with your Cobre Balance account_id and locate the payment_methods object. This contains the BIC, account number, bank name, bank address, and account owner name your payers will use to send funds.

Share your credentials with your payers

Provide these details to any party sending funds to your Cobre Balance, such as international customers or partners and affiliated entities abroad. If you need to attribute incoming payments to specific senders, instruct them to include a unique reference or memo.

Implement Webhooks to track incoming credits

Subscribe to the accounts.balance.credit event to receive notifications when a swift_credit is posted to your Cobre Balance, avoiding the need to poll the Transactions API.
